Simple Machines Project

During the last week of the 17th till the 21st of March. In F3 physics class, we looked at simple machines, and their uses, and put them into practice.

We first learned about them, and how they are used on a normal day.

Then the teacher made teams of three students. Each team should find a specific problem to solve by using simple machines.

We had to start by creating a sketch. It had to be very professional, so we made it on white paper. It had to be neat and clean. For the teacher to approve our sketch, it had to be done using rulers, and compasses, the drawings must be comprehensible and have good penmanship.

Once the project was approved, we started building the prototype of our idea. It was created with wood, cardboard, plastic, hot glue, recycled materials, etc., all materials provided by the prep room.

All the teams were organized differently. As the projects had things that were already viewed in class, we needed to know how and why our simple machines worked in those models.

The members of my team contributed with their skills and abilities, such as planning, designing, building, decorating, etc.
Laia started to develop the main ideas for our prototype. Alejandro and I helped her to complete these thoughts and plan the full structure of it.

As we worked on the different parts of the pulley, the lever, and the base, we could make the work faster by helping each other.

This project made me stretch my way of thinking and use all the previous learning and skills that I had developed in class. While doing the project, I related my simple machines to machines I have used or seen in my daily life.

Even if you think you know everything about something, there are always new things you can learn by having new experiences. They help us to learn by trial and error or trial and success.

Finally, we had to present our prototype to the class. We had to explain which types of energy were used, how they transformed from one type of energy to another, what simple machines we used, and how they contributed to solving the problem we had chosen.

During the presentation of our prototypes, we were nervous and excited since we had to explain everything and demonstrate how our prototype worked.

This project helped me learn and understand more about themes that I will use in the future.

I enjoyed working on this project because of the creative process of it. I felt very satisfied with the result and how successful it was. I hope to do more projects like this one to keep improving in class.
