The first few months of school have been filled with so much learning and fun. As a new member of the Lancaster community, it’s been an exciting rollercoaster ride (in the best way!). Everyone has been so welcoming, and the students are truly fantastic. In 4th grade English, we began the year by exploring the five senses. We learned how humans use sight and touch, and compared that to how different animals experience the world. One highlight was our pig’s eye dissection—while some students were a little squeamish at first, everyone ended up having a great time learning and investigating the parts of a real eye. Students practiced using adjectives to describe what they saw and felt, while writing in complete sentences. In our second unit, we’ve been focusing on expression through art. We explored how rap music and poetry connect, created artwork inspired by different emotions, and have been writing up a storm! Recently, students wrote haiku poems and even calaveras literarias in celebration of Día de Muertos. These activities have helped us expand our vocabulary, improve pronunciation, and express our creativity in new ways.
