Teacher appreciation day

“Empowering Teachers, Building Resilient Societies”

World Teachers’ Day, is an important celebration to the world’s educators.

World Teachers’ Day, observed annually on 5 October, is a global appreciation of the invaluable contributions made by educators in shaping individuals and societies. Schools, communities, and governments around the world reflect on the importance of teachers and education.

Established in 1994 by UNESCO in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), World Teachers’ Day commemorates the signing of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. This document sets global standards regarding the rights, responsibilities, and working conditions of teachers, recognizing the critical role they play in social and economic development.

The 2025 theme, “Empowering Teachers, Building Resilient Societies”, emphasizes the necessity of supporting educators to ensure strong, inclusive, and future-ready education systems. In a world facing challenges like climate change, technological disruption, and growing inequality, teachers are at the forefront of preparing students to navigate an increasingly complex global landscape.

Teachers do more than deliver lessons. They mentor, motivate, and inspire. They identify and nurture talent, support emotional well-being, and foster critical thinking. Their influence extends far beyond the classroom, shaping the character, values, and aspirations of generations.

This year, events marking World Teachers’ Day will be held in over 100 countries, featuring workshops, awards ceremonies, conferences, and student-led initiatives. Schools may host assemblies or classroom activities to help students appreciate the role of their teachers. Online campaigns will spotlight stories from educators worldwide, sharing their challenges, triumphs, and hopes for the future.

As the world celebrates World Teachers’ Day 2025, it’s a reminder that the future of education—and indeed society—depends on how we support those who dedicate their lives to teaching. Whether through policy reform or a simple “thank you,” showing appreciation and commitment to educators is essential.

Let us honor the teachers who light the path toward knowledge, equality, and a better tomorrow.
