OUR FIRST ACADEMIC FAIR Unit of Inquiry: How the World Works
On Thursday, February 5th, our Kinder 1 students proudly participated in our Academic Fair, where they had the opportunity to share their learning with their families.
Throughout this Unit of Inquiry under the transdisciplinary theme How the World Works, students explored the central idea that animals require care and can be grouped in different ways according to their characteristics. The children investigated how animals are classified based on observable features such as body covering, habitat, diet, and physical characteristics. They also learned about the importance of caring for animals and understanding their needs.
As part of our investigation, we also celebrated a special Pet Week, which was a highlight of the unit. During this week, the children had the incredible opportunity to see, observe, and gently touch different animals, including a turtle, dogs, a cat, snakes, and even a bearded dragon. This hands-on experience allowed them to make real-life connections to their learning, ask meaningful questions, and better understand the characteristics and needs of different types of animals.
During the Academic Fair, students confidently presented their knowledge, explained how animals can be grouped, and shared examples of what animals need to live and grow. It was wonderful to see them using academic vocabulary, making connections, and demonstrating their understanding in meaningful ways, with their families there to support and celebrate their learning.
Families were then invited to participate in different interactive activities both in the classroom and outside in the patio. These hands-on experiences allowed the children to reinforce their learning while sharing special moments with their parents.
We are incredibly proud of our Kinder 1 students for their enthusiasm, confidence, and growth throughout this unit. Thank you to all the families who joined us and supported this special learning experience.
