Dear Lancaster Community,
I hope that this letter finds you and your loved ones well and full of festive cheer.
As 2024 draws to a close, I am writing to thank everyone who has made this first term of the cycle so successful and who has contributed to strengthening our community in ways small and large.
We have had a very busy (and long!) first term and have enjoyed working with you in many different ways. It has been wonderful to see those of you who have assisted the listening forums both in Rey Yupanqui and Diligencias. Those spaces are not only interesting because they allow me to hear different voices and perspectives about what is happening in the school, but also because they allow me to share information about what we have been doing and what we are thinking about for the future; having input to those ideas is always helpful. We have also seen excellent attendance at the various academic fairs which have been running since September and look forward to that continuing in the new year.
We have also been working, since September, on the development of the school’s strategic plan. This has been a fascinating exercise involving the school’s board as well as the commission alongside teachers and leadership from our academic and administrative team. We are very excited about the possibilities that are presenting themselves and the direction that we can see unfolding and can’t wait to share that with the rest of the community in the annual assembly.
We have had several community events which have allowed us to get together in a more social setting: Our new Welcome Breakfast, Hallowe’en, Ofrendas, Noche Bohemia, Green Apple Day, Museum of me, Lanky Mundial, WinterSale – and most recently our Winter Festivals – have allowed the community to come together and create memorable moments which have been aptly captured by Fabian and shared on our social media networks. We also held our first career consultation forum for our Lower Sixth students given by our ex-student network which was received very positively on both sides of the table.
We did face the unfortunate circumstances of a storm that caused that cancellation of the traditional Noche Mexicana – but we look forward to seeing you at the ‘New Year’ celebration being organised in lieu of this by our Upper 6th students on the 15th January (who knows, maybe we will start a new tradition).
All of this in addition to the academic activities which continue, as always, to engage and motivate teachers and students. We are preparing our students, once again, for participation in the Shakespeare Competition run by The Anglo, we have hosted 2 chess tournaments for our aficionados in Rey Yupanqui, Lower 6th film students visited the Filmoteca, UNAM, and our Pre-First students are very excited and preparing for their outing to Claudia Bonilla’s Garden.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my warmest gratitude to each and every member of our staff who have worked so hard during this long term to make sure that the school runs as smoothly as possible. We are happy and proud to be able to learn each day from our students and we wish you all a festive holiday season and look forward to seeing you again in January.
